Hi,

A new lr release, lr-20010116.tar.gz, was just uploaded on
http://www.logreport.org/pub/. Thanks for all responses we've got thus far.
This greatly inspired us while working on this new release.

 From the NEWS file:

* No longer depends on GNU make.
* Finds perl and sendmail path during configure: now builds, installs and
runs out of the box on Solaris.
* Scripts respect --prefix and other configure flags. We're really using
autoconf and automake now, which makes the package act sanely in other
directory hierarchies. No longer uses LR_HOME and other environment
variables: no need to set them any longer.
* Now package behaves sanely when configure is run without any arguments.
* Integrated a client package. During configure, one can choose to install
just the client, or the complete suite. The client enables one to send and
receive logs and reports in an anonimized format.
* Bugfixes in postfix and apache convertors.

About the lr client: this consists of scripts to anonimize ones
logfile locally, before submitting it to the LogReport online responder.
We believe this will enable more people to get their logfiles processed:
even when one's log contains privacy sensitive data, one can use
the online responder service now: the LogReport online responder
on log at sendmail.logreport.org, log at postfix.logreport.org,
log at qmail.logreport.org, log at bind8.logreport.org and
log at apachecommon.logreport.org knows how to handle anonimized logs. Of
course, one can de-anonimize the report one receives, using the client
software. Refer to the README file on
http://www.logreport.org/pub/current/README.lr-client for more information.

Of course, one could also install the complete lr suite onsite, and
process one's logs locally. (Or even run an own online responder.)

We hope this new package will suit your needs even more. If you would
like some extra features added, or if you need help installing or running
the software, do not hesitate to contact us. We are waiting for your
reactions.

Kind Regards,

Joost
