Announcing Lire 1.4 Release Candidate 1

Hello everyone,

We are pleased to announce Release Candidate 1 of Lire 1.4.

Apart several bug fixes, the most notable change in that release
is the new SQLite based DLF storage and reporting engine. This new
reporting engine improves the performance of Lire 1.4 by 20%-60%
depending on the report type in comparison with Lire 1.3.

This release will be available in a few hours from
http://download.logreport.org/pub/lire-1.4rc1.tar.gz

You'll need a patched version of the DBD::SQLite CPAN module
to use that release. A version with the patch already applied
is available from
http://download.logreport.org/pub/extras/DBD-SQLite-0.28lire.tar.gz

This RC1 release was tested on Debian GNU/Linux (Sid),
Red Hat 8.0, Red Hat 9.0, Solaris 9, NetBSD 1.6.1, FreeBSD 4.8
and OpenBSD 3.3.

Red Hat users will find RPMS for Lire dependencies not included
in their distributions (like perl-DBD-SQLite) in 

Red Hat 8.0 RPMS:

Red Hat 9.0 RPMS:
http://download.logreport.org/pub/rpm/redhat/9.0/RPMS.lire/

(Red Hat 9.0 users will need a more recent version of expat than the one
provided with their system. We provide such a package for convenience.)

Debian users will find a patched libdbd-sqlite-perl 0.28 package in our
APT repository:

deb http://apt.logreport.org/pub/debian local contrib

Please try that RC1 release and report any bugs you find
to development at logreport.org. The final 1.4 release is planned for next
week pending any serious bug report.

Binary packages for Red Hat 8.0, Red Hat 9.0 and Debian GNU/Linux 
will be provided with the final 1.4 release.
