patch proposal to run lr_config on solaris

I had to make minor modifications to be able to run lr_config
on solaris. Attached you will find a proposal that resolved
encountered issues. I also check the patched script on
Linux (SuSE-8.0) to check that this patch does not introduce
side effects.
