Lire 1.3 on RedHat 9

Deciding it was time to upgrade, I've installed Lire 1.3 on RedHat 9.
Latest required packages, etc were also installed.  Lire seems to parse the
logfiles OK, but when it comes time to output images something goes very
wrong. :)  Command line I'm using is: "lr_run lr_log2report -o html_page
xferlog < 1 > output.tar", where 1 is a test file with a couple thousand
lines.

Trying to use GD for images results in the following:

Sorry for the long email, but I thought more information is better than
less.  Is there a new Lire coming out soon that will support RedHat9, or are
there patches I need to apply?  Or is the answer "don't run it on Redhat9"
