lire remarks and questions

Hi,

I'm in the process of testing Lire for Atos Origin. This isn't an
official project, just something I'm interested in having a look at.

Since yesterday I've got the Lire client and responder installed on
my notebook, and it is able to produce logfile reports.

I've got a few remarks regarding the Debian unstable Lire package
installation/configuration:

* Wouldn't it make more sense to have 3 kinds of debian Lire packages?:
    - client-only
    - responder-only
    - client and responder

  Or just two (one for the client and one for the responder) if
  that possible.

* The documentation confused me a bit as to what addressing scheme
  should be used, I believe it mentions these two without further
  detail:

    - <service>-log@<my-domain>
    - log@<service>.<my-domain>

  I think it is important to explain this better in the docs.

  What about seperating the incoming logfile emails (by default?) based
  on the subject line (via a procmail script)? This would reduce the
  number of aliases/sub-domains that need to be created.

* Shouldn't the Debian package run 'lr_setup_responder' during
  installation?

    root at knuth:jama# mkdir /var/spool/lire
    root at knuth:jama# chown lire:lire /var/spool/lire

* Isn't syslog a better default than stderr:
  #LR_LOGGING=stderr
  LR_LOGGING=syslog

Typos:

* This seems like a typo:
  /usr/share/doc/lire/README.Debian.gz:
   daemon=/dis/abled

*  lr_config:
    [press enter to continue]
    Lire can generate reports in several format:
					      _
* Can I setup Postfix to only accept message over 10MB
  for a set of recipients? Our logfiles are often much larger
  than the default MTA limit. Other MTA configs for this
  are also welcome.

* Could the Logreport mailinglists be made searchable?

I've emailed Joost off-list several remarks regarding the Lire
output several months ago, but judging from the output I still
see from topaz these issues are not yet handled. I'll do some
more testing and re-submmit that list of output issues I think
are still relevant.

regards,
