Alright, I'll try that instead. I had previously used:

		./configure --prefix=/usr/local/logreport \
		--sysconfdir=/usr/local/logreport/etc \
		--libexecdir=/usr/local/logreport/lib

Which didn't work so well for me.

Right, I didn't think that was a good idea, but the instructions
weren't entirely clear and it seemed to be the only way to make it
work at the time.

Now that I understand this a bit more, I don't have a problem
with this stuff (although I do hope it gets improved soon ;-). I
think I misunderstood the instructions I had read.

You can set your own headers and then pipe the output to
"sendmail -t" and get the same effect. In fact, I'd argue that this
works a lot better than using mutt.

However, while this works for sites using sendmail or postfix,
this loses portability for sites that are running alternative MTAs
such as qmail or exim.

You may end up needing to add a section during the install
process that asks the admin how mail should be generated, and give
them one of several options that you've already configured (including
at least one possibility of talking directly to a specified MTA via
SMTP).

If none of those pre-configured options work, then it would be up
to them to make something that does work, and then interface that to
your program.
