What do you want to achieve?  Your problem is not clear to me.

As the lr_xml2html manpage states:

       When the -i option is used, lr_xml2html will generates PNG
       charts. The output on STDOUT is a tar file that one could
       pipe stdout to '| tar -xf -', which will create a direc­
       tory report/ in your current working directory, with an
       index.html as well as some .png's.

So one could run

 lr_run lr_log2report -o html -i /tmp/errors email sendmail < /var/log/mail.log | tar -xf -

and view the html files in the created directory report/ .
