I have a very interesting and intriguing issue. I have 5 Sendmail servers running behind a firewall on the same (non-routable) 10.1.253.x subnet. I also have 1 Sendmail server which is outside the firewall, on a routable IP. When I try to send mail between the internal servers to another internal server @ IP address 10.1.253.203, the following error occurs in the MAILLOG:
Dec 30 15:42:03 backupmail sendmail[8313]: fBUNg3H08310: to=pscott at edenhosting.net, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=30348, relay=mail.edenhosting.net. [208.179.22.203], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by mail.edenhosting.net.
This will happen as well from any other Sendmail server to another Sendmail server within the internal network, as in the following example:
Dec 30 16:33:29 mail sendmail[19920]: fBV0XSM19920: from=root, size=273, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=< 200112310033.fBV0XSM19920 at mail.edenhosting.net>, relay=root at localhost
Dec 30 16:33:29 mail sendmail[19923]: fBV0XSM19920: to=pscott at fxfirst.net, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=30273, relay=mail.fxfirst.net. [208.179.22.216], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by mail.fxfirst.net.
This message was sent from the server which hosts the EDENHOSTING.NET domain TO the server handling the FXFIRST.NET domain.
However, the server OUTSIDE this internal LAN can send mail into any of the internal servers without issue.
The command used to send test email is as follows:
[root at mail /etc]# mail pscott at fxfirst.net < lilo.conf
Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Paul Scott
