Which autoconf and automake versions are you using?  I run automake
1.4-p4 and autoconf 2.13 .  BTW, the preferred way to bootstrap from CVS
is by running the ./bootstrap wrapper script.  (running autoscan is not
needed.) It's documented in the Lire Developers Manual on
http://logreport.org/pub/current/doc/dev-manual.html#sect:tarball .

If you still have troubles, I could of course upload a snapshot tarball
from cvs to our webserver.
