Especially in mac OS X, I find it very useful to use the "lr_run"
wrapper when invoking lire from the command line. I have a vanilla
installation running from the "full" tarball and I have the same issue
if I run "lr_check_service" without the "lr_run". If I use

  $ lr_run lr_check_service -l

I get the results I want.

However, there may be reasons you don't want to mess with lr_run. If so,
I would suggest hacking around under the hood of that command to figure
what links are being made there.

hope that helps!
