from segfault to Parser.pm error

RedHat ES 2.1 v.3

Removed the XML::Parser redhat package and installed the XML-Parser-2.29 
from cpan and Expat expat-1.95.6-1 from the expat site.

Now I get the below message when I do anything.

bogus message: no element found at line 1, column 0, byte -1 at 
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/XML/Parser.pm 
line 185
