lr_log2report still core dumps on solaris 8

I've built lire 2.0.1 under solaris 8 using gcc 3.4.1, perl 5.8.4 and gmake.

When I use lr_log2report to process a log I get a core dump. I've tried
lr_log2report with sendmail, ipfilter, and syslog dlf converters on
corresponding log files.   DBD-SQLite2-0.33 was built without the -O2
optimize option as suggested in an earlier posting.  The core dump is coming
from perl, but I am at a loss.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Here is an
example:

% ~/tmp/lire/bin/lr_log2report ipfilter /logs/ipf/ipf.log.0 /tmp/report
